Suwon Intensifies Operations of 'Pavement Water Misting System' in Preparation for Heat Wave

[Suwon Ilbo = Reporter Jeong Jun-seong] Suwon Special Municipality is actively working to alleviate the urban heat island effect during the hot summer months by utilizing eco-friendly facilities such as pavement water misting systems and rainwater supply stations.

The city announced on the 24th that it is operating pavement water misting systems at 4 major roadway locations throughout the city and supplying rainwater for various purposes from 7 rainwater supply stations.

Accordingly, the city conducted a comprehensive inspection of all pavement water misting systems and rainwater supply stations in May, and began full-scale operation of the facilities from early this month in preparation for the heat wave.

The pavement water misting system is a system that sprays collected rainwater onto roads. It operates when temperatures exceed 30 degrees Celsius or when an extreme heat advisory is issued, serving to lower the temperature, and also helps reduce fine dust by spraying rainwater when a fine dust advisory is issued.

Installation locations include △in front of Suwon Convention Center on Gwanggyo-jungang-ro △in front of Suwon Sports Complex on Gyeongsu-daero △in front of Suwon World Cup Stadium on World Cup-ro △in front of Gwanggyo Middle School on Welbing-town-ro, totaling 4 sections.

The city operates 7 rainwater supply stations with a total supply capacity of 44,000 cubic meters.

A city official stated, "We will actively utilize the pavement water misting system and rainwater supply stations to mitigate the heat island phenomenon," and added, "We request that various construction sites actively use rainwater from nearby rainwater supply stations for road cleaning and landscaping water."
