Suwon Designates 'Gwonseon 2-dong Matgoal Food Culture Street'

[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Jung Jun-sung] The 'Gwonseon 2-dong Matgoal Street,' located in Gwonseon-gu, Suwon Special Metropolitan City, has been newly designated as a food culture street.

Gwonseon 2-dong Matgoal Street, situated around 32 Gwongjung-ro 56-beon-gil, Gwonseon-gu, is a representative food alley in the neighboring residential area.

More than 80 restaurants are concentrated in the area, offering a diverse menu selection. The food culture street features proximity to the Suwon Agricultural and Aquatic Products Wholesale Market, enabling supply of fresh ingredients.

With the addition of Gwonseon 2-dong Matgoal Food Culture Street, Suwon's food culture streets have grown to a total of 11 locations: △Jangmun Geobuk Market-gil △Pajang Stream Matgoal △Firefly Yeonmu Market Romance Street △Geumgok-dong Eoul-rim Shopping Center Food Culture Street △Hwaseong Haenggung Taste Village Street △Cheoncheon Food Alley △Suwon Fried Chicken Street △Homae-sil Cherry Blossom Food Culture Street △Haengri-danil-gil Food Culture Street △Jangdari-ro Food Culture Street △Gwonseon 2-dong Matgoal Food Culture Street.

The city has been designating and operating concentrated restaurant districts as food culture streets to invigorate alley commerce and local economy while fostering healthy food culture. Beginning with the initial designation in 2020, the city has been adding new food culture streets annually.

A city official stated, "We hope that the designation of food culture streets will bring vitality to the stagnant local economy," and added, "We will actively support the development of distinctive food culture streets along with fostering healthy dining culture."
