Suwon City's 'Public Institution Integrated Business Service' Selected as OECD's '2023 Best Government Innovation Case'

[Suwon Ilbo = Reporter Jeong Jun-seong] The ‘Private Cloud-Based Public Institution Integrated Business Service’ developed by Suwon Special City has been selected as a best case in the '2023 Call for Innovation in Public Service' category held by the Observatory of Public Sector Innovation (OPSI) of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).

Each year, the OECD OPSI identifies public sector innovation cases that have contributed to solving various social problems around the world and shares them with the international community.

For this call, governments, academia, the private sector, and civil society from around the world submitted more than 800 innovation cases. Of the 43 cases submitted by Korea, seven were selected as best cases, including Suwon City's private cloud-based integrated business service.

The private cloud-based integrated business service is a system that integrates the common tasks of 12 public institutions. It converted five types of integrated Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) tasks and four types of integrated groupware tasks into cloud-based business services.

It improved the inefficiency of each institution separately carrying out computing tasks and operating computing personnel, and enhanced safety and efficiency by utilizing private cloud technology.

The project began in 2020 as a call for proposals project by the Ministry of Science and ICT and the National Information Society Agency (NIA), and it has since been continuously expanded and supplemented to complete the digital transformation.

With the introduction of this system, Suwon City's public institutions can now manage their computing infrastructure in an integrated manner, and costs have also been reduced.

Suwon City's innovation case has also been posted on the OECD OPSI website (https://oecd-opsi.org/) > resources > case study library. It will also be included in the domestic innovation casebook to be published by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety at the end of the year.

A city official said, “We are pleased that Suwon City's private cloud-based public institution integrated business service has been recognized by the international community as a government innovation case,” adding, “We will improve work efficiency through various innovations in the digital field to provide high-quality services to citizens.”
