Namyangju City Corporation's Eco-Land Receives Gyeonggi Province Governor's Commendation for 2024 Environmental Conservation

- Recognized for environmental conservation and resident-friendly facilities, including Korea's first NIMBY (Not In My Back Yard) resolution

[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Eom In-yong] Eco-Land operated by Namyangju City Corporation (President Lee Gye-moon) was selected as a 2024 Environmental Conservation Contributor by Gyeonggi Province and received a commendation from the Gyeonggi Province Governor on the 24th.

The Gyeonggi Province Environmental Conservation Commendation is a system that honors private citizens and civil servants who have contributed to advancing environmental conservation policies in the province to promote the importance and value of the environment. Selection criteria include sustainability (20%), purpose (30%), ripple effect (30%), difficulty level (10%), and public interest (10%).

Eco-Land is the cleanest incineration residue landfill in Korea and has become a regional landmark through open operations and high utilization of auxiliary facilities such as swimming pools, soccer fields, and walking trails. The facility is recognized as a theme park on major portal sites and has shed its image as a nuisance facility to establish itself as an environmentally-friendly facility.

In this evaluation, Eco-Land was recognized for △an environmentally-friendly incineration residue landfill △overcoming the nuisance facility image △Korea's first NIMBY resolution △stable landfill operations through cost reduction efforts.

Meanwhile, Eco-Land is equipped with international standard soccer and futsal courts, foot volleyball courts, a 25-meter indoor swimming pool, indoor sports facilities, and simple exercise equipment that residents can freely use.

Namyangju City Corporation President Lee Gye-moon said, "This commendation was awarded based on high evaluation of the facility's stable operations and budget reduction efforts, and it is a result achieved through long-term communication with the residents' cooperation council and residents to overcome the nuisance facility image." He added, "Going forward, we will thoroughly prepare for accident prevention and do our best in facility management for comfortable use so that local residents can trust and visit with confidence."
