Suwon Metropolitan City Council Members Host Residents' Forum on Gwangkyo Cafe Street

Kim Ga-hyun, vice chairman of the Urban Future Committee at the Suwon Metropolitan City Council (People Power Party, Gwangkyo 1·2), and Councilwoman Seo Hyung-mi (Democratic Party, Gwangkyo 1·2) invited 15 members of the Gwangkyo Cafe Street Development Committee (led by Chairman Choi Jong-hyun) to the council on the 12th for a tour and forum.

Aligned with the legislative slogan "Citizens, Citizens, Citizens! An Open Council," the members viewed a promotional video on the role and activities of the Suwon Metropolitan City Council, then toured the plenary chamber and standing committee conference rooms to observe the process of ordinance drafting and revision and decision-making.

During the forum, a wide range of local issues were discussed, including parking problems in the cafe street area. Concerns were raised that as visitor traffic to the commercial area increases, the shortage of parking spaces has become an inconvenience for both residents and merchants.

In response, the two council members explained that the creation of a parking tower using development gains is being discussed as one of the projects under review, and noted that they have proposed to relevant departments a plan to include a senior center alongside the parking tower if it is built. However, they emphasized that the decision to proceed with the project and its priority will be determined after expert review and public opinion gathering, urging residents to actively participate in future public opinion collection procedures and share their views.

Vice Chairman Kim Ga-hyun said, "I will communicate frequently with residents and carry out my legislative activities with joy and happiness."

Councilwoman Seo Hyung-mi stated, "I will work hard to make our neighborhood, home to the cafe street, a truly warm and pleasant place to live."

A Development Committee official said, "We ask that you share in the joy of residents and their concerns, and pay a little more attention to the cafe street as you oversee municipal affairs."
