Suwon Special City Council Members from Both Parties Host Meeting with Gwanggyo Cafe Street Residents

Geum Ga-hyeon, Deputy Chair of the Urban Future Committee of the Suwon Special City Council (People Power Party, Gwanggyo 1·2), and Council Member Seo Hyeong-mi (Democratic Party of Korea, Gwanggyo 1·2) invited 15 members of the Gwanggyo Cafe Street Development Committee (Chair Choi Jong-hyeon) to the council on the 12th for a tour and meeting.

The tour, arranged in line with the council's legislative slogan “Citizens, Citizens, Citizens! A Council Open Together,” had the committee members review the role and activities of the Suwon Special City Council through a promotional video, before touring the main assembly hall and the standing committee meeting rooms to observe how ordinances are enacted and revised and how decisions are made.

At the meeting, local issues were discussed extensively, including the parking problem in the cafe street area. It was noted that as the number of visitors to the commercial district increases, the shortage of parking spaces is causing inconvenience for both residents and merchants.

In response, the two council members explained that creating a parking tower using development profits is one of the projects being reviewed, and stated that if a parking tower is built, they had also proposed to the relevant department a plan to include a senior citizens' center. However, since whether to proceed with the project and its priority will be decided after expert review and gathering of resident opinions, they urged residents to actively participate and voice their opinions in the upcoming resident opinion-gathering process.

Deputy Chair Geum Ga-hyeon said, “I will engage in council activities with a joyful and happy heart while communicating frequently with residents.”

Council Member Seo Hyeong-mi said, “I will work hard so that our neighborhood with the cafe street can become a truly warm and livable place.”

An official from the Development Committee said, “We would be grateful if you could share in the residents' joys and worries, and pay a little more attention to the cafe street while overseeing city affairs.”
