Gyeonggi Province Superintendent of Education An Min-seok Pursues Globalization of Korean Language Education Through 'AP Korean'

Gyeonggi Province Office of Education (Superintendent of Education An Min-seok) held a strategy roadmap seminar on the 7th at the National Assembly Members Hall to globalize Korean language education and pursue the adoption of 'AP Korean'.

AP (Advanced Placement) Korean is a program designed to meet the global demand for Korean language learning, allowing overseas students' achievements in Korean language learning to be recognized in university admissions and academic processes.

The seminar was co-hosted by Gyeonggi Province Office of Education, National Assembly Member Kim Jun-hyuk, and the AP Korean Steering Committee, and was attended by Superintendent An Min-seok, the Ministry of Education, domestic and international Korean language education experts, and education-related officials.

The seminar began with a progress report by AP Korean Secretary General So Byeong-seon, followed by Professor Jang Tae-han presenting the necessity and direction of AP Korean adoption. In the subsequent expert discussion, overseas Korean language education demand, conditions for AP Korean adoption, curriculum development and learning infrastructure, and roles and cooperation systems among domestic and international institutions were broadly discussed.

In particular, participants noted that the adoption of AP Korean provides a foundation for recognizing Korean language learning achievements within an international education system, and agreed that a phased implementation strategy and sustained domestic and international cooperation are necessary.

Superintendent An Min-seok stated, "The adoption of AP Korean is an urgent task that can no longer be postponed," adding "Each educational stakeholder must work together to develop a strategy," and concluded, "We will actively support the budget for the adoption of AP Korean."
