Multi-Lane Hi-Pass Opens at Uiwang Toll Gate on Seo-Suwon-Uiwang Expressway on September 17

Multi-lane Hi-Pass has been installed at the Uiwang Toll Gate on the Seo-Suwon-Uiwang Expressway (Provincial Road 309), and it will begin a two-day trial operation starting on the 17th.

The Seo-Suwon-Uiwang Expressway is a private road managed by Gyeonggi Province, and installation work for the multi-lane Hi-Pass has been underway since April.

The trial operation of the multi-lane Hi-Pass at Uiwang Toll Gate is scheduled to begin on September 17 in the Bongdam direction, followed by the Seoul direction on September 18.

Multi-lane Hi-Pass is a non-stop toll collection system that creates a wide passage by placing multiple dedicated Hi-Pass lanes together like the main highway. Unlike the existing single-lane Hi-Pass, it removes the dividing posts and walls between two or more Hi-Pass lanes, forming one wide lane.

Uiwang Toll Gate has multi-lane Hi-Pass installed in two lanes each for both upbound and downbound traffic, and the passage speed will be improved from the existing 30km/h to 60km/h. Expected processing capacity will increase from 1,100 vehicles per hour to 1,800 vehicles, approximately 60% increase, which is expected to alleviate congestion in bottleneck sections and improve traffic speed.

Gyeonggi Province and Gyeonggi Southern Road Corporation have ensured both driving stability and traffic flow by straightening lane alignment, reinforcing safety facilities, and repainting road signs and lane markings.

Bae Sung-ho, Director of the Construction Bureau of Gyeonggi Province, said, "With the construction of this multi-lane Hi-Pass, we expect to alleviate the recurring bottleneck phenomena and significantly improve vehicle passage speeds and driving safety."
