Jang Dong-hyuk, "Impeachment of Lee Jae-myung as a Chuseok Gift"

Jang Dong-hyuk, chairman of the People Power Party, escalated the offensive against the government and the ruling party by raising issues ranging from personnel matters and real estate policies to financial and education issues, culminating in mentioning the impeachment of President Lee Jae-myung—all within a single day.

According to political circles on the 17th, Chairman Jang demanded at a Supreme Council meeting held at the National Assembly that morning that the Lee administration's cabinet reshuffle be withdrawn and that the cabinet and presidential office be overhauled, criticizing the reshuffle as "worse than not doing it at all."

In particular, he criticized the parliamentary confirmation hearing for Justice Minister nominee Kim Seung-won as "low-grade comedy," arguing that various allegations surrounding the nominee had not been adequately clarified. He continued his criticism toward Defense Minister nominee Kang Shin-chul and nominees for ministers in the economic and land development sectors.

The government's comprehensive farmland survey also came under scrutiny.

Chairman Jang argued that the farmland comprehensive survey should be halted and that the government should apologize to farmers, citing difficulties faced by elderly and tenant farmers and the contraction of farmland transactions. The People Power Party continued its offensive against the government on farmland issues by having a farmer from Yesan, South Chungcheong Province, attend the Supreme Council meeting that day.

Regarding financial policy, he targeted the process of introducing single-stock leveraged ETFs. Chairman Jang raised allegations that former Presidential Office Policy Director Kim Yong-beom led the policy initiative and announced the People Power Party's plan to pursue a special investigation into the so-called "ETF Gate."

Regarding the server error scandal in college entrance application submissions, he demanded the resignation of the Education Minister and announced plans to establish a "College Entrance Fairness Task Force" directly under the party chairman.

He also pressured President Lee's press conference scheduled for the 18th.

Chairman Jang demanded answers on the issue of constitutional revision for consecutive terms, presidential trial matters, the nomination of Kim Seung-won, and policies on real estate, diplomacy, and security. He argued that if the president does not clarify his position on these matters, it would be better to cancel the press conference.

The intensity of the offensive increased further in the afternoon.

When the National Assembly's Legislation and Judiciary Committee adopted the parliamentary confirmation report on Justice Minister nominee Kim Seung-won with a "qualified" opinion, led by the Democratic Party after People Power Party members walked out, Chairman Jang claimed through his SNS that "President Lee must have instructed it."

He then criticized the Democratic Party as a "presidential office branch office" and again raised the issue of the president's trial and appeal matters.

He concluded by stating, "The most precious gift our people want to receive this Chuseok is 'the impeachment of Lee Jae-myung.'"
