Suwon Office of Education, '2026 Suwon Eco Job Day' - Breaking Through School Walls Together
The Suwon Office of Education (Director Kim Hye-ri) operated '2026 Suwon Eco Job Day' under the theme 'Breaking Down Walls! Learning About the Environment and Designing the Future' in the conference room of the Suwon City Hall for two days starting from the 18th.
The event was promoted to link environmental education and career education based on the 'wall-breaking education policy' that connects diverse educational actors—both private and public sectors, industry and academia—beyond the boundaries between schools and local communities, and to connect the region's educational and environmental resources to student and youth learning and growth.
In particular, co-hosted by the Suwon Office of Education and Suwon City, and in collaboration with the Korea Meteorological Administration, Samsung Electronics, Kyonggi University, and the Suwon Environmental Education Network, public institutions, local governments, corporations, universities, and environmental organizations connected their expertise to the educational arena.
Approximately 120 participants, including elementary, middle, and high school students, university students, and young adults, attended the event. Participants met environmental professionals from various fields—education officers in charge of environmental policy, environmental civil servants, environmental organization activists, environmental department staff at Samsung Electronics, professors of environmental-related departments, and Korea Meteorological Administration officials—and explored the roles of professions, required competencies, and practical solutions for solving environmental problems.
Through this, participants were able to directly experience in the local community various environmental career fields and career information that are difficult to access within schools. Additionally, participants linked their understanding of environmental issues to the actual world of work and had the opportunity to specifically explore career paths that match their interests and aptitudes.
Kim Hye-ri, Director of the Suwon Office of Education, stated, "Suwon Eco Job Day is a practical example of wall-breaking education that tears down the barriers between schools and local communities and connects the expertise of various institutions, corporations, universities, and environmental organizations, including Suwon City, to the educational arena. When diverse local actors work together, students' learning can expand beyond the school. We will continue to actively cooperate with the local community to expand educational opportunities for students to explore both the environment and careers together and to design their futures."
Going forward, the Suwon Office of Education plans to continue advancing region-based future education that supports students' lives and futures by centering on the 'wall-breaking education policy,' breaking down boundaries between schools and local communities, expanding collaboration among private and public sectors, industry and academia, and connecting regional educational, environmental, industrial, and university resources to curriculum and career education.
