Yangju City Pilot Installation of Manhole Fall Prevention Devices in Flood-Vulnerable Areas

Yangju City has pilot-installed 'manhole buoyant rings' in key flood-vulnerable sections around Sangsu-ri, Nam-myeon, to prevent manhole fall accidents that can occur when roads become inundated during heavy downpours.

Manhole buoyant rings are fall prevention devices designed so that when water pressure inside sewage pipes increases due to heavy rainfall and manhole covers become displaced, the buoyant body floats to the water surface.

When roads become flooded, the displaced manhole covers are difficult to spot visually due to muddy water and other obscuring factors, so the buoyant body that rises to the water surface serves to alert people to dangerous areas.

Through this pilot installation, Yangju City plans to examine the effectiveness of manhole fall prevention and review safety management measures for flood-vulnerable sections within the city.

Cha Sun-bum, head of Yangju City's Road Management Division, said, "As localized heavy downpours become more frequent, preparing for safety accidents in flood-affected areas is becoming increasingly important. We will strengthen inspections of flood-vulnerable areas and continuously develop preventive measures to ensure citizen safety."
