"Thinner-like odor in tap water"...5,000 households in Suwon Hanil Town affected by water shutdown
Suwon Special City Councilmember Kim Eun-soo (People Power Party, representing Pajang, Songjuk, and Jowon 2 districts) visited the site of the Hanil Town Apartment tap water odor complaints that occurred on the 19th, confirmed the situation with residents, and took action to ensure swift normalization.
At Hanil Town Apartment, which has a total of 5,282 households, residents filed multiple complaints on the morning of that day about tap water smelling similar to thinner. The apartment management reported that the odor may have seeped into the water during waterproofing work on the water tank and suspended water supply to 58 buildings and 122 supply points for approximately 14 hours to clean the water tank.
However, even after the water shutdown was lifted, some residents expressed concerns about the odor and water quality. The Suwon Water Service Bureau collected water samples for testing, and residents are awaiting results. While water supply trucks provided water for daily use, inconvenience and anxiety persisted.
In response, Councilmember Kim heard residents' concerns that communication between the management office and representatives during the emergency was not smooth, which caused difficulties in rapid situation assessment and decision-making. He also emphasized the need to establish a swift response system for similar situations in the future.
Councilmember Kim Eun-soo said, "Given that residents are experiencing considerable inconvenience and anxiety due to the sudden tap water problem, safety must be our top priority above all else. I will closely monitor the situation to ensure water quality testing and follow-up measures proceed without delay and until residents can use tap water with confidence."
