Yun Jung-hyun of Hwaseong City Wins Bronze Medal in Foil Fencing at Aichi and Nagoya Asian Games

Yun Jung-hyun, a member of the fencing team of Hwaseong Special City, achieved a remarkable feat by winning a bronze medal at the 2026 Aichi and Nagoya Asian Games.

Yun Jung-hyun competed as a South Korean national representative in the men's foil individual event held at Aichi Sky Expo in Japan on the 22nd and earned a bronze medal.

Yun Jung-hyun demonstrated impressive performance from the early stages of the tournament. He advanced to the knockout rounds by winning all group preliminary matches, defeated Taiwan's Chen Yi-tung 15-4 in the round of 16, and defeated Uzbekistan's Danil Kravtsov 15-5 in the quarterfinals to advance to the semifinals.

Showcasing stable match management and sharp offensive power by allowing only 4 and 5 points to opponents in the round of 16 and quarterfinals, respectively, he secured at least a bronze medal while advancing to the semifinals.

In the subsequent semifinal, Yun Jung-hyun faced Hong Kong's Ryan Choi in an intense match but narrowly lost 15-13, earning the bronze medal.

Particularly, this tournament holds special significance as Yun Jung-hyun won a medal in his first Asian Games after completing military service with the Armed Forces Sports Corps and returning to Hwaseong Special City Office's fencing team in May 2026, demonstrating competitiveness in international competitions and enhancing the status of Hwaseong Special City.

Yun Jung-hyun's medal pursuit continues. On the 25th, he will compete in the men's foil team event alongside his teammates from Hwaseong Special City Office, Lee Gwang-hyun and Lim Chul-woo, in another bid for a medal.

The city plans to build on this achievement to further strengthen competitiveness in international competitions and contribute to the development of Korean sports through nurturing next-generation athletes and implementing systematic training systems.
