Osan City Selects Park Wol-bong and Eom Gi-suk as This Year's Women Awardees
Osan City announced on the 20th that it has selected Park Wol-bong (71) and Eom Gi-suk (56) as this year's Women Awardees.
Park Wol-bong, selected in the filial piety category, married into her family at age 22 and has served her parents-in-law for 49 years. She also cared for her father-in-law (89), who suffered from dementia for four years before his death.
Park has also been supporting her mother-in-law (100), who has suffered from dementia for the past three years.
A city official explained the selection background, stating, "Despite her advanced age of 71, Park demonstrates utmost respect for her elders and humility through her consistent and devoted care for her mother-in-law."
Eom Gi-suk, selected as the Volunteer Service Award recipient, began volunteering as a member of the Red Cross Women's Association in 1985 and has been delivering rice and side dishes to low-income elderly residents every month.
Eom has engaged in volunteer activities including identifying at-risk families in cooperation with Infinite Care Centers, providing daily necessities to low-income households, and delivering disaster relief and relief supplies.
A city official stated, "Over 27 years, Eom has been engaged in various volunteer activities in the community, including free meal services."
