Osan City Makes 2014 Year of the Green Horse a Year of Great Strides
Last year, Osan City was selected for the Korea Representative Brand Award in the education sector, laying a foundation toward becoming the nation's leading educational city. In particular, it ranked first nationwide in the integrity evaluation of public institutions conducted by the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission at the end of last year, earning admiration from other cities and counties as it realized an ethical city of Osan.
Additionally, the century-old 'Osan Osaek Market' received a presidential commendation at the National Excellent Market Expo, and Osan City, which received the highest grade for two consecutive years in the nationwide evaluation of local government leaders' promise fulfillment and information disclosure, has set seven major municipal goals to realize Happy City Osan this year and is making a bold takeoff.
Pursuing its identity as Korea's representative educational city, Osan City has unveiled a blueprint to further develop into the central city of Korean education and a role-model city for innovative education this year. It plans to cultivate Mulhyanggi School, an innovative education model school, and schools designated as innovative schools by the provincial education office into comprehensive schools, while developing creative and intelligent education suited to each school's characteristics.
It is committed to activating the 'Citizen Participation School' and 'Parent Study' meetings, which are gaining nationwide praise as excellent examples of new educational culture in the form of 'out-of-school schools.' Furthermore, the city announced it will operate the 'Dream-Finding Mentor School,' which helps students discover their dreams, by leveraging talent donations from a diverse pool of successful professionals to aid students in their career paths.
With hopeful childbirth and childcare policies, since being designated as a pilot city for childbirth and childcare in 2011, Osan City has been pursuing diverse and differentiated childbirth and childcare policies, bringing happiness to Osan's mothers and fathers. This year, it plans to open two additional public and municipal daycare centers to complete the 30 centers promised at the start of the fifth popularly elected administration.
To realize comfortable welfare for all citizens, Osan City is focusing this year on welfare integrated with job creation to foster a warm Osan without prejudice and discrimination. It will establish a comprehensive welfare center with multifunctional welfare facilities in the Segyo District, which had previously lacked welfare infrastructure, and the Kkumdure Library, a hub of innovative education, is scheduled to open in March.
The city also plans to expand the 'Happy Delivery Helper' team, the '1472 We Care' program, which resolves inconveniences for underprivileged groups, to strengthen services tailored to daily life.
Furthermore, Osan City is committed to providing demand-oriented 'One-Stop' job services to help citizens find jobs, creating sustainable Osan economy. Through attracting domestic and international IT companies and leading enterprises to the Gajang Industrial Complex and linking Amorepacific and the Korea Cosmetics Industry Research Institute, the city plans to further advance the beauty and cosmetics industry.
