Addressing Gaps in Welfare and Preparing Plans for Old Downtown Redevelopment and Supplementary Measures

Min Han-ki (55, Saenuri Party), a Suwon City Council candidate from the Ma electoral district (Seryou 1st, 2nd, and 3rd dong), is challenging for his fourth term as a city councilor in this local election. Min is evaluated as having taken a leading role in improving treatment and institutionalizing working conditions, having sponsored an ordinance bill on "Improving Treatment and Status of Social Workers in Suwon City."

In this election campaign, Min stated, "Seryou-dong is an old downtown area, so policy alternatives regarding redevelopment are urgent." He diagnosed that there is a need for "halting uniform apartment-focused redevelopment policies, establishing measures to minimize resident damage from stalled redevelopment, and reestablishing Suwon City's criteria for lifting redevelopment district designations."

He further emphasized, "Old downtown redevelopment must be done even if it costs money, and I will lead local residents to take the initiative voluntarily."

As key campaign pledges, he presented the realization of a "Regional Hope Project" through aggressively promoting the relocation of Suwon Airfield and expanding noise damage compensation, revitalizing the local economy through job creation for the elderly, improving school educational environments and children's protection zones, securing public parking lots and installing additional CCTV in safe neighborhoods, creating livable communities, fostering creative talent, building local cultural infrastructure, ecological restoration, regional welfare without blind spots, and implementing balanced regional development initiatives.

On welfare policies, he pledged to expand subsidies for senior centers, implement school educational environment improvement projects including creating school forests and operating after-school care classrooms, expand municipal childcare facilities, and expand children's protection zone improvement projects (installing CCTV, safety fences, integrated signage, and safe sidewalks around schools and kindergartens).

Additionally, he announced plans to prepare business measures to protect small merchants, create clean commercial district streets, expand public parking lots and alley parking in Seryou-dong, expand the Seryou 1st-dong Community Center, install additional CCTV in safe neighborhoods, create resident rest areas including Suwon Stream expansion, install community sports facilities in Seryou-dong, complete the Beodeune Public Library, and promote plans to build a Youth Culture Center.
