Activating Communities for Shared Education, Welfare, Environment, and Living

Lee Jong-geun (48, Democratic Party of Korea), a candidate for Suwon City Council from electoral district A (Jeongja 2 and 3 wards), has thrown his hat into the ring with a commitment to transform Jeongja-dong, an educational special district, into a hub of Suwon's innovative education, a safe village community, and a "welfare community" where people live together in mutual support.
Candidate Lee has launched under the slogan "A Happy Community Where We Live Together" and stated, "When villages thrive, the nation thrives, and when local safety networks are healthy, society as a whole becomes a safe society," expressing his conviction on "sustainable societal development" including preservation of the ecological environment.
He has compressed and presented major campaign pledges into four categories.
As ‘Education Community’ initiatives, he has pledged: ▲support mentoring programs for low-income youth after school ▲promotion of lifelong education programs and extracurricular arts and physical education support ▲expansion of Bugsuwon Library and expansion of digital reading rooms ▲support for educational facilities including school restrooms and cafeterias ▲establishment of state-run childcare centers for infants and young children ▲enactment of school meal radiation safety ordinances ▲enactment of ordinances to support hygiene in childcare centers.
For the ‘Welfare Community’ initiatives, he has pledged: ▲strengthening job creation programs for the elderly ▲promotion of postpartum care center support ordinances ▲enactment of ordinances to support apartment aging pipe replacement ▲implementation of residential environment improvement projects for low-income semi-basement dwellers.
As part of ‘Green Community’ initiatives, he has proposed: ▲enactment of renewable energy support ordinances ▲creation of senior vitality parks and expansion of pocket parks in neighborhoods ▲creation of walking paths and ecological alleyways ▲strengthening of resident participation oversight systems ▲establishment of Seohocheon Ecology Information Center and construction of ecological experience courses ▲promotion of Seohocheon Environmental Life Festival and support for joint family camping site projects.
For ‘Living Community’ initiatives, he has proposed: ▲utilizing spatial information big data for expansion and adjustment of village bus routes ▲revitalization of commercial districts in Jeongja and Cheoncheon through attracting a High Court ▲strengthening and support of "volunteer-linked programs" using village volunteer centers ▲improvement projects for traffic accident-prone areas ▲support for village gardens for slow food development and promotion of farmers' markets and local food direct sales shops.
