First Move Is Safety Inspection at Construction Site… 'Rooting Out Corruption' Quietly Disappears

Suwon Mayor Yeom Tae-young began his first move toward the '6th popular election term' city administration goal of a 'Safe and Fair Society' as he set out to conduct a safety inspection of a construction site on the 1st.

That morning, Mayor Yeom paid his respects at the Memorial Tower, then held a goyuje ceremony at Hwaryeongjeon Hall in Hwaseong Haenggung Palace to report his inauguration as mayor before the royal portrait (御眞) of King Jeongjo, and rang the bell at Yeominggak to pray for the safety and peace of the citizens.

Upon arriving at City Hall, Mayor Yeom took his place at the inauguration ceremony to a congratulatory song by the Suwon Mothers' Choir.

In his inaugural address, Mayor Yeom pledged, "I will realize a city where citizens are safe, a city ranked first in employment rate, a rainbow welfare city, and a city with convenient transportation, creating a greater, people-centered Suwon."

Mayor Yeom then volunteered to serve free meals to the elderly, operated by Huimang House, at Hyowon Park, and had lunch together with the volunteers.

Returning to his office at City Hall, Mayor Yeom signed a memorandum of understanding for the creation of a safe city with the Korean Professional Engineers Association, a gathering of engineers who apply specialized technology in the field, and then immediately inspected the overpass bridge construction site in Seodun-dong, Gwonseon-gu.

Mayor Yeom toured the construction site and encouraged those involved, while urging them to take every precaution regarding safety measures at the construction site and to work toward building a safe city free of accidents until completion.

Meanwhile, Mayor Yeom continued to remain 'silent' regarding the 'Science Park suspicions' <reported in this paper on June 30>.

One thing that changed was that the words 'corruption' and 'rooting out corruption' disappeared from the inauguration ceremony that day.

At a press conference to launch the 6th popular election term on the 30th, the day before his inauguration, Mayor Yeom had presented 'a clean society free from corruption' as the first task for a fair society.

Mayor Yeom had then declared, "The shameful past era caused by corruption is now over," and announced, "Right here, I declare a 'Zero Corruption City, Clean Suwon.'"
