The 2026 Suwon Skewer Festival, where you can encounter over 100 types of skewers, opened on the 3rd. Under the theme of "All About Skewers in Suwon," the Suwon Skewer Festival runs from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. through the 5th at the plaza area in front of the Suwon Hwaseong Museum.

Marking Suwon's year as a visitor destination, the Suwon Skewer Festival, held for the first time this year, features approximately 90 organizations and businesses, including local restaurants and merchants from food culture streets, showcasing diverse foods ranging from traditional dishes to skewer cuisine from countries around the world.

Visitors can enjoy "Hwayan Juk (Five-Color Skewers)," a dish from King Jeongjo's royal banquet that embodies his filial piety and compassion for the people, and Suwon Galbi Skewers using Suwon marinated short ribs, as well as fusion skewers and skewer dishes from countries including Japan, China, India, and Thailand. The menu includes 104 items.

Participatory experience events such as "Make Your Own Skewer" have also been held and garnered positive response. Programs include "Tteokbokki Factory" where visitors can make rice cake skewers, "Colorful Fruit Skewer Styling" creating skewers with fruit, "Today I'm a Global Chef!" experiencing food cultures from Romania, Mexico, and Japan, and "Master of Skewers" where participants compete in board games.

Suwon Mayor Lee Jae-jun, who attended the opening ceremony held on the 3rd, said, "From the traditional royal court cuisine that King Jeongjo presented at his mother's royal banquet to the marinated short ribs that symbolize Suwon, you'll be able to enjoy Suwon's past and future through skewers. I hope you'll enjoy the three major festivals of Suwon Hwaseong with convenient, easy-to-carry skewers."

The opening ceremony was attended by Kim Mi-kyung, speaker of the Suwon Special City Council, city council members, and Representatives Kim Young-jin (Suwon City Council) and Kim Jun-hyuk (Suwon City Government).
