The Gyeonggi Content Agency held the launch ceremony on the 29th of last month at the Pangyo Gyeonggi Creative Economy Innovation Center, with key officials from 9 game development companies and related enterprises in the province and 9 game-specialized high schools and universities in attendance.
Industry Rapidly Changing with Generative AI...Narrowing Education-Practice Gap
The council was established to respond to rapidly changing global market trends through the introduction of new technologies such as generative artificial intelligence (AI) and the latest game engines, and to create a structure where companies and talent develop in a virtuous cycle within Gyeonggi Province.
From the private sector, 9 companies including Naver Webtoon, NaviGames, Blackstorm, SuperFast, Smilegate, NC AI, Control9, Team Sparta, and Pleaders participated.
From the academic sector, 9 educational institutions including Gyeonggi Game Meister High School, Gyeonggi Science and Technology University, Gyeongmin University, Dongyang University, Bucheon University, Shingu University, Yeonsung University, Chungkang Culture & Arts University, and Hanshin University were listed.
From Curriculum Revision to 'PlayX4' Linkage...Practical Support
The participating institutions discussed concrete practical cooperation methods at the launch ceremony, including ▲upgrading educational curricula reflecting on-site corporate needs ▲supporting focus group tests (FGT) for new titles utilizing the pool of university students in the province ▲game show 'PlayX4' linked industry-academic projects and business matching.
The Gyeonggi Content Agency plans to hold the first regular council meeting in November to confirm key implementation tasks for 2027. Going forward, it will operate regular meetings at least 3 times annually and establish itself as a standing policy council.
Tak Yong-seok, director of the Gyeonggi Content Agency, said, "Since approximately half of the nation's game departments and enrolled students are concentrated in Gyeonggi Province, it was urgent to establish a governance system that organically connects industry and academia. We will spare no effort in supporting development companies to produce high-quality games and help students grow into talent capable of being immediately deployed in the field."
