Yongin Mir Stadium Proves International Competition Capacity…Son Heung-min Records 59 A-Match Goals

On the 6th, when South Korea's men's national soccer team played a friendly match at Yongin Mir Stadium, cheers erupted from approximately 30,000 spectators. The stadium once again proved its capacity to host international competitions, boasting top-tier grass conditions and facilities.
Prior to the match, Yongin Special City Mayor Lee Sang-il attended with former Korea Football Association Chairman Jung Mong-joon to encourage the players, and both remained at Yongin Mir Stadium throughout the game to support the South Korean national team and the spectators.
The Korean national team, bolstered by enthusiastic support from the crowd, defeated the Uzbekistan national team 2-0.
Mayor Lee Sang-il stated, "Yongin Mir Stadium maintains premium grass conditions and is equipped with facilities that allow spectators to comfortably watch matches, demonstrating its capacity to host international competitions. The fact that the event concluded safely without accidents through the mature civic consciousness of our citizens reflects the high caliber and dignity of Yongin."
The mayor added, "It is a matter of great pride that Son Heung-min, the leading striker of the men's national soccer team, scored a goal that created new pages in Korean football history at Yongin Mir Stadium. We will continue to make efforts so that Yongin Mir Stadium is loved by citizens and becomes an even better stadium."

In the match on that day, national team striker Son Heung-min converted a free kick in the 6th minute of the first half. With 59 A-match goals recorded, Son Heung-min surpassed the 58 goals set by Korea football legend and former coach Cha Bum-kun, establishing a new national record for most goals in men's A-match football at Yongin Mir Stadium.
Striker Oh Se-hoon, who led the attack alongside Son Heung-min, also scored an additional goal in the 15th minute of the second half, driving South Korea's national team to victory.
Approximately 130 volunteers, including staff from Yongin City Volunteer Center and auxiliary firefighters, dedicated themselves to safely guiding spectators heading to the stadium.
Additionally, the Gyeonggi Southern Police Agency and Yongin East Police Station deployed approximately 330 personnel to prevent accidents and traffic congestion that could occur when large crowds gather at once.
