Unveiling Ceremony Held as Citizens Build Hwahongmun Gate from Cardboard Boxes...Mayor Lee "Completed by the People's Strength"

The unveiling ceremony for "The People's Great Architecture Hwahongmun" was held on the 10th, where citizens pooled their efforts to create "Hwahong" from cardboard boxes at Haengung Plaza. This collective architecture project was undertaken together with the Suwon Architects Society.

Suwon Special Mayor Lee Jae-jun attended the unveiling ceremony for the 63rd Suwon Hwaseong Culture Festival's "The People's Great Architecture Hwahongmun-Meoreumm" and stated, "The greatest force moving the Suwon Hwaseong Culture Festival is none other than our citizens."

Mayor Lee continued, "The force that completed Suwon Hwaseong 230 years ago was the effort of countless ordinary people. Just as suggested by the subtitle 'The People's Great Architecture,' ordinary citizens pooled their strength to complete the massive structure of Hwahongmun," he said.

The People's Great Architecture Hwahongmun progresses through three stages: "building-unveiling-dismantling." From July to September, Suwon City recruited citizen architects to participate in The People's Great Architecture "Hwahong." The citizen architects participated in a module production workshop from October 1-8, where they worked with the Suwon Architects Society to construct columns, rafters, and other components for the Hwahongmun gate from cardboard boxes.

On the 9th, the Hwahongmun gate was constructed from modules at Haengung Plaza (building), and on the 10th, Suwon Mayor Lee Jae-jun and citizens held the unveiling ceremony together (unveiling). On the 11th in the afternoon, an interactive performance dismantling the cardboard Hwahongmun gate will be held.
