Series Preview The Inner Workings of Korean Media Captured by Brush Strokes...Jang Bong-gun's <My Newspaper Company Story> Begins
Master cartoonist Jang Bong-gun, who has depicted the spirit of each era through witty and profound editorial cartoons at every turn of modern Korean history, will serialize a retrospective column <Jang Bong-gun's My Newspaper Company Story> featuring candid stories from inside and outside the newsroom.
This series opens with stories from 1991 when he was a young cartoonist submitting illustrations to the Hankyoreh's readers' editorial cartoon column. It begins with heartfelt confessions about his fateful meeting with his mentor Park Jae-dong and his starting point as an illustrator for the Hankyoreh pages, along with grateful people who opened the path of life during times of uncertain future.
The dynamic landscape of the editorial department during the analog era when pen and ink filled newspaper pages, and the candid confessions of his intense youth spent as a solid brick in the newspaper building amid the bone-grinding stress of nightly deadlines, are laid out honestly.
Furthermore, it encompasses the fierce struggles he experienced while working at both progressive and conservative media outlets, serious reflection on factional logic and mockery culture, and deep contemplation on the media's inherent role of "fact-checking and multidimensional balance." In today's world overflowing with contaminated information and extreme claims, he also poses weighty questions to readers about what true public discourse means.
We earnestly request your keen interest and support for <Jang Bong-gun's My Newspaper Company Story>—sincere retrospection and sharp perspective from a master who has solemnly traversed an era as an editorial cartoonist.
