Ajou University Hospital Trauma Center Strengthens Facilities and Personnel to Save Critically Injured Patients

Ajou University Hospital announced that it has been selected for the Ministry of Health and Welfare's 'Regional Trauma Center Installation Support Project,' enabling it to strengthen its 24-hour emergency response system for critically injured trauma patients.
Taking this opportunity, Ajou University Hospital will enhance its treatment capacity for critically injured trauma patients requiring complex surgeries and specialized trauma cases (pediatric, facial, etc.). Additionally, it will expand its role as a regional trauma center that coordinates the acceptance and transfer of critically injured trauma patients across regions.
Hospital Director Jo Jae-ho stated, "This selection is an opportunity to further expand the hospital's responsibility and role in saving the lives of critically injured patients. Through facility and specialist personnel expansion and strengthening collaborative systems with supporting departments, the hospital will spare no effort in supporting the stable operation of the regional trauma center."
The Regional Trauma Center Installation Support Project includes plans to expand intensive trauma beds from the existing 100 beds to 140 beds by increasing ICU beds from 40 to 60 beds and general trauma beds from 60 to 80 beds.
Additionally, trauma operating rooms will be expanded from 3 to 6, and resuscitation rooms from 2 to 3. The hospital will also establish advanced hybrid facilities to strengthen the professional treatment foundation for complex surgeries and combined injuries.
Trauma center staffing will also increase from the existing 318 personnel to 425, with a total recruitment of 107 additional staff members. This will support the stable operation of expanded medical facilities and strengthen the 24-hour critically injured trauma care system spanning from emergency resuscitation through surgery to intensive care.
In addition, a metropolitan trauma network connecting 119 emergency services, emergency medical institutions, and regional trauma centers will be established. Using wide-area transfer systems such as helicopters, the hospital will rapidly accept critically injured trauma patients who cannot be accommodated within the region and provide final treatment, while enhancing transfer and acceptance coordination between medical institutions based on patient severity and treatment needs.
