Suwon Hwaseong Unveiled Under Moonlight…"63rd Suwon Hwaseong Culture Festival" Press Day Held

The 63rd Suwon Hwaseong Culture Festival, where the breath of the Joseon royal court and contemporary media art will harmonize, has previewed its major content ahead of opening.

The Suwon City Government and Suwon Cultural Foundation held a press day on the 29th at Hwaseong Haenggung in Suwon, Gyeonggi Province, and demonstrated highlights of this year's festival's core vision and representative night performance content. At the event, attended by journalists from major media outlets and cultural and arts officials, newly created programs blending aesthetics of traditional heritage with contemporary direction were unveiled.

In the demonstrated performances, the water performance 'Seolyumong (Boat Dream)' unfolding against the nightscape of Banghwa Suryujeong and Yong-yeon, and the immersive night drama 'Time Travel – That Night at Haenggung Yahwa,' experienced through moving among major buildings within Hwaseong Haenggung, garnered significant attention. Additionally, an actor portraying King Jeongjo attended the scene to deliver messages about the festival's symbolic meaning and the contemporary reinterpretation of royal culture.

The 63rd Suwon Hwaseong Culture Festival this year, with the theme 'New Light, Red People'—a modern reinterpretation of King Jeongjo's spirit of benevolence toward the people—will be held for 8 days from October 4 to 11 throughout the Suwon Hwaseong area, including Hwaseong Haenggung, Yeonmudan, and Banghwa Suryujeong.

On opening day, the 4th, a large-scale procession reenacting 'King Jeongjo's Royal Inspection Tour' that flows from Seoul's Changdeokgung Palace through Suwon Hwaseong to Yungneung and Geoneung will unfold, and during the festival period, the large-scale thematic performance 'Yajo (Night Operations),' combining mounted martial arts and flame effects, will be presented on a special stage at Yeonmudan.
