'Suwon Disaster Basic Income' Donations - Suwon Citizens Participate with Enthusiasm
[Suwon Ilbo=Seo Dong-young Reporter] Suwon citizens are increasingly participating in a sharing campaign called 'Overcoming Suwon Together with the Love Foundation' to donate their 'Suwon disaster basic income.'
Suwon City and Gyeonggi Province Social Welfare Community Chest have been running a sharing campaign for donations of 'disaster basic income' since the 9th. As of the 24th, the fundraising amount has reached 228 million won (1,101 donations). The donation funds will be distributed promptly to citizens affected by the COVID-19 crisis.
Starting on the first day of the sharing campaign, the Suwon City Hall Civil Servants' Labor Union, Suwon City Labor-Management-Civic Council, Suwon City Pyeongsil Association (people practicing lifelong learning), and social welfare organizations participated in donations, followed by resident groups, associations, citizens, and public officials.
On the 13th, 44 heads of resident autonomous committees from 44 wards in Suwon City participated in the donation campaign. The social welfare sector, including the Suwon City Community Security Council, Suwon City Social Welfare Council, and Suwon City Social Workers Association, also made donations.
Donations from organizations and institutions such as 'Yulcheon-dong Protectors Volunteer Corps,' 'Jeongja 3-dong Organization Leaders Council,' 'Chowon 2-dong Heads of Neighborhood Council,' 'Seryou 2-dong Organization Leaders Council,' and 'Municipal Wuman Kindergarten' continue to flow in.

Various departments and cooperating organizations of Suwon City are also joining the donation campaign one after another. Employees from multiple departments, including the Road Traffic Business Office and the Environment Bureau, contributed to the disaster basic income donations.
On the 20th, Park Jae-gyu, director of 'Suwon City Women's Cultural Space Hyu,' along with staff members, donated funds to the city, saying "Please use it to support small business owners affected by COVID-19." Ahn Sang-uk, chairman of the Suwon Sustainable City Foundation, and executives and employees also delivered disaster basic income funds they voluntarily raised to the Seodun-dong Administrative Welfare Center on the 24th.
Chairman Ahn Sang-uk said, "With the heart to create a society where we live together with those facing greater difficulties, employees gladly participated in the good donation relay," and added, "I hope this will be of some help to neighbors struggling with the hardships of COVID-19."
Citizens wishing to donate can transfer funds to the special fundraising account (Nonghyup 317-0003-8354-31, Account holder: Gyeonggi Community Chest) or put donations in the collection boxes installed at each ward administrative welfare center. Each administrative welfare center operates a donation consultation desk.
Citizens facing difficulties due to the COVID-19 crisis can choose beneficiaries such as small business owners, young unemployed individuals, and low-income and vulnerable citizens on the donation designation form when making their contribution.
Citizens wishing to receive donation receipts can submit an application form via email (suw@chest.or.kr), fax (0303-3261-2113), or submit it to the nearest ward administrative welfare center.
A city official said, "We sincerely thank the citizens who are participating in the disaster basic income sharing campaign," and urged, "Citizens whose income has not decreased after the COVID-19 crisis are encouraged to participate in the sharing campaign by donating their disaster basic income to those experiencing difficulties due to COVID-19, thereby helping those in greater need."
