Suwon Mayor Yeom Tae-young: "I will play a role in settling the 52-hour workweek for buses"

[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Kang Han-seo] Suwon Mayor Yeom Tae-young stated, "The hardship caused by the implementation of the 52-hour workweek for buses should be shared together."
Mayor Yeom made the remarks on the 18th at the 'July Expanded Executive Meeting and Communication Competition' held at the Suwon Convention Center Event Hall, saying "When the 52-hour workweek for buses begins, all bus workers, bus companies, and bus users will face difficulties," and emphasizing "Nevertheless, the 52-hour workweek is absolutely necessary for a 'safe society' and 'a life with evenings.'"
He continued, "Our city will play a role so that the 52-hour workweek can be stably settled," adding "We will gather citizens' opinions and find ways to share the burden."
Mayor Yeom also expressed regret, saying "Recently, there have been many instances showing our country's potential to the world," and "Although there are many hopeful signs, negative signs are being highlighted so much that I think the people's spirits are being broken."
He cited as examples of the country's potential the 'FIFA U-20 World Cup runner-up finish,' 'BTS's performance at Wembley Stadium in Britain,' and 'Director Bong Joon-ho's Palme d'Or win at the Cannes Film Festival for "Parasite."'
As achievements of the first year of the seventh term of elected officials, he presented ▲2019 Suwon City living wage decision of 10,000 won ▲Domestic first production of 13-volume replica of the "Jeongri Ui-gwe" (整理儀軌) in Korean ▲Establishment of Suwon High School Women's Ice Hockey Team ▲Opening of Suwon High Court and Prosecutor's Office ▲Opening of Suwon Convention Center ▲Administrative boundary adjustment with Yongin City.
Mayor Yeom Tae-young stated, "Suwon City, as a basic local government, has accomplished what the central government and provincial governments could not do, such as the production of replica Jeongri Ui-gwe and the opening of Suwon High Court and Prosecutor's Office."
Rep. Kim Bu-kyum (former Minister of Interior and Safety), who served as a lecturer for today's communication competition, delivered a lecture on the theme of 'The Republic of Korea We Will Create: Moving Beyond Polarization to a Society of Coexistence.'
Rep. Kim pointed out 'polarization' as a contradiction in Korean society, saying "If the keyword for national development in the 20th century was 'competition, efficiency, and growth,' then the Republic of Korea we need to create going forward should be a safe and happy society of coexistence."
