Suwon City Supports Stable Settlement of Multicultural Families
[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Seo Dong-young] Suwon City will promote various projects this year to support the stable settlement of multicultural families, including customized education for multicultural families and foreign residents, and career and academic advancement services for youth with immigrant backgrounds.
First, the city will conduct a 'Comprehensive Survey of Living Regulations That Foreign Residents Must Know.' Following the survey, the city plans to produce and distribute guidebooks containing various living regulations in fields such as automobiles, taxation, sanitation, and real estate from March to April for use by foreign residents. The guidebooks will be distributed to city, district, and neighborhood offices as well as 15 foreign resident-related institutions.
Educational projects for multicultural families and other foreign residents will continue. Korean language education for foreign workers and foreign women will be offered twice annually in the first and second half of the year, and visiting education services for marriage migrants and children of multicultural families will also be conducted. Visiting education will include various services such as Korean language services, parenting education services, and child life services.
The city will also provide career guidance and academic advancement services for immigrant youth. These include 'Rainbow Job Arena,' which provides career guidance and vocational experience opportunities for youth; 'Grab My Job,' offering confectionery and baking theory and practical training; and 'Barista Certification Course' to help youth obtain barista qualifications.
The city will also implement the 'Together Community Contest' that provides project funds to corporations and organizations that plan and apply for excellent projects and programs for foreign residents, 'Free Medical Treatment (Internal Medicine, Surgery, Dentistry, etc.) and Beauty Services,' and 'Reading Mentoring for Children of Multicultural Families.'
To this end, the city held the '2020 Multicultural-Related Institutions Communication Meeting' at the City Hall conference room on the 14th to discuss ways to implement multicultural policies efficiently.
The meeting was attended by city government officials and representatives from seven multicultural-related institutions, including the Suwon Immigration Office, Suwon Foreign Resident Welfare Center, Suwon Multicultural Family Support Center, and Suwon Global Youth Dream Center.
A city official stated, "We will carefully implement support projects to revitalize social participation of multicultural families and foreign residents," and added, "We will continue to support them so they can participate as members of the local community."
Currently, the number of foreign residents in Suwon City reaches approximately 69,000.
