Gwonseon-gu conducts field inspection of 'pedestrian traffic improvement project' along Maesil-ro in Homaesil-dong
[Suwon Ilbo = Reporter Seo Dong-young] On the 11th, Gwonseon-gu conducted an inspection of the target site for the 'pedestrian traffic improvement project' on a 1.8km round-trip section of Maesil-ro in Homaesil-dong to be carried out by the city.
As an elementary school is adjacent to this section, there is heavy pedestrian traffic from children commuting to school, and the area urgently requires improved accessibility and user environment. The project will be implemented with a total budget of approximately 1.5 billion won, including 451.2 million won in provincial funding secured through the Gyeonggi Province-led 'pedestrian-friendly city development project' competition.
As the full budget has not yet been secured and may be subject to change, the city in charge of the project plans to issue construction bids around June.
Through road diet initiatives, the effective sidewalk width will be secured by adjusting lane width and number of lanes. Safety facilities around schools, sidewalk level treatment, crosswalk installation, sidewalk resurfacing, crosswalk repainting, and crackdowns on illegal parking will be implemented.
To reduce vehicle speeds in the school protection zone, speed sign maintenance, road narrowing, safety fence installation, raised crosswalks above road level, colored pavement, and speed bumps will also be installed.
Gwonseon-gu Chief Gil Young-bae stated, "We need awareness of a traffic culture that prioritizes pedestrians," and added, "We will make efforts to enhance mobility convenience for traffic-vulnerable groups such as people with disabilities and children."
