Suwon Mayor Yom Tae-young: "Now is the time to prepare for 'With Corona'"
[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Jung Jun-sung] Suwon Mayor Yom Tae-young said, "Now is the time to prepare for 'With Corona.'"
At an "October Expanded Executive Meeting" held on the 28th using a combination of non-contact and in-person methods, Mayor Yom stated this position and emphasized, "As social distancing continues due to the spread of COVID-19, self-employed individuals and small business owners are struggling to get through each day. We must prepare measures to give hope to self-employed individuals and small business owners."
Mayor Yom Tae-young's 'With Corona' is interpreted as meaning that rather than expecting a complete end to COVID-19, we should establish a new quarantine system that lowers the fatality rate and prepare for coexistence with COVID-19.
Mayor Yom has been consistently proposing a 'transition to With Corona' through personal SNS and media interviews recently.
On the 23rd, he said on his personal SNS, "As COVID-19 vaccination increases, the fatality rate has dropped significantly, but the economic fatality rate for small business owners has reached a critical point." He added, "The collapse of small business owners can lead to stagnation of the local economy and further collapse of the middle class." He then argued, "Now we must change quarantine measures to a 'phased return to daily life' approach that focuses on managing severely ill patients."
Meanwhile, at the expanded executive meeting, Kim Hee-kyeom, former head of the Ministry of Interior and Safety's Disaster and Safety Management Headquarters, served as a lecturer for the communication salon on the topic of 'The image of civil servants that Suwon citizens desire.'
Former Director Kim presented three basic qualities that civil servants must have: ▲professional competence ▲right mindset ▲correct direction, and emphasized, "Civil servants must have the competence to perform their assigned tasks at the highest level and maintain an attitude of working for citizens." He further urged, "Make constant efforts to communicate with citizens, think from the citizens' perspective, and listen to the voices of citizens."
He also noted, "Suwon citizens have great expectations for the 'Suwon Special City' launching in January next year," and emphasized, "Suwon city civil servants must think about the future of Suwon and work with passion to create a special city that meets citizen expectations."
