Hwaseong Mayor Jeong Myeong-geun: "I will actively explore policies needed for women"
[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Park Chan-hyuk] Hwaseong Special Mayor Jeong Myeong-geun distributed bread and roses to female employees arriving at City Hall on the 7th, one day ahead of International Women's Day (March 8th).
This year marks the 117th International Women's Day, which originated from large-scale protests by female workers in the United States on March 8, 1908, demanding political equality and wage increases. Bread symbolizes the survival rights of female workers, while roses symbolize voting rights.
Mayor Jeong, who hosted the Women's Day event following last year's event, stated "I have organized today's event to promote the value of gender equality based on mutual respect," and added "In the spirit of this year's Women's Day slogan 'Accelerate Action,' we will create a gender-equal environment through active policies."
Meanwhile, the city was designated as a Women-Friendly City in 2023. Additionally, it received attention by being the sole basic local government to win the 2023 Gyeonggi Province Gender Equality Award, which is presented to individuals and organizations that contribute to gender equality.
Furthermore, the Hwaseong Women's New Job Center was uniquely selected as an excellent institution in the service provision sector among 130 general-type New Job Centers nationwide, achieving the feat of receiving the 2024 Minister of the Interior and Safety Award. Additionally, the Women's Entrepreneurship Platform Dream Maru, operated by the Hwaseong City Women, Family and Youth Foundation, received top excellence and excellence awards consecutively at the 2023 and 2024 Gyeonggi Women's Business Competition, proving its outstanding capabilities.
Mayor Jeong Myeong-geun stated "This year, Hwaseong Special City will actively explore and implement policies needed for women in keeping with the status of a women-friendly city and special city," and said "We will work together so that all genders can enjoy equal rights and opportunities."
