Guangming City Signs Agreement with Education Office to Open Guangming North Middle School Parking Lot to Citizens Free of Charge

Guangming City (Mayor Park Seung-won) is sharing school idle spaces with the community, expanding the foundation for mutual growth between schools and the local community.

On the 11th, the city signed a 'Cooperative Agreement for School Space Opening' at Guangming Education Support Office, with participation from Guangming Education Support Office, Guangming North Middle School, Guangming North Elementary School, and Guangming Elementary School.

Guangming North Middle School will open its attached parking lot free of charge to citizens during low-utilization hours. By utilizing idle parking spaces owned by the school, this is significant in expanding insufficient parking space without requiring additional land acquisition or budget investment.

The parking lot opening is expected to not only enhance parking convenience for residents and visitors, but also reduce illegal parking and stopping around schools, contributing to the creation of a safe pedestrian environment.

Additionally, Guangming North Elementary School and Guangming Elementary School will open their multi-purpose gymnasiums to citizens during idle hours that do not interfere with regular educational activities. By providing spaces where nearby residents can enjoy sports activities, the city supports citizens' leisure activities and health promotion.

Since 2019, the city has supported public utilities and facility maintenance costs to reduce the burden of facility opening on schools, and in 2023, it became the first nationwide to deploy cleaning and management personnel. From 2024 onwards, the city also supports liability insurance enrollment for sports facilities, helping the stable operation of opening schools.

To date, a total of 39 schools have participated in gymnasium opening, and 92.9% of 42 schools with gymnasiums in the city are opening their facilities to citizens.

Gymnasiums can be used on weekday evenings without classes or on weekends after advance reservation. Current opening status by school is available on the Guangming City website (gm.go.kr), and detailed information can be obtained by contacting the administrative office of each school.

Guangming City Mayor Park Seung-won stated, "We will actively support the utilization of school idle spaces to reduce the burden on schools and education support offices while enhancing citizen convenience," and added, "We will strengthen cooperation between schools and the local community and continuously expand space sharing that reflects diverse local needs."
