[Suwon Ilbo=Seo Dong-young] Suwon City is making efforts to create 'a good environment for raising children.'

The city held a regular meeting of the '2019 Suwon City Community Care Council' at City Hall on the 17th. The Community Care Council, which was launched in August, discusses, decides on, and supports matters necessary for 'establishing Suwon City care service plans' and 'eliminating care gaps and providing customized services.'

This year, the city has implemented eight care projects including ▲installation and operation of Together Care Centers ▲creation of Suwon-style community schools ▲support for children's care reading culture programs at small libraries.

The 'Together Care Center' is a child welfare facility that provides customized services such as regular and temporary childcare to elementary school children (ages 6-12) in need of care regardless of parents' income level. The first facility opened on the 17th at a community facility in Human Sia Complex 16, Gwonseon-gu. The city plans to install and operate 20 centers by 2022.

The city will also create 'Suwon-style community schools' (working title) that anyone—children, youth, and local residents—can use. The city will convert unused classrooms at Seoho Elementary School in Gwonseon-gu and open them by the end of this month. The facility will house a library, educational rooms, a book café, music and dance practice rooms, and woodcraft studios.

The city is also starting the 'small library children's care reading culture program support project.' From now through December this year, 15 libraries in the city will operate programs in reading and experience activities that elementary school students can participate in.

In addition, the city is promoting projects including 'community child centers operation,' 'childcare support services,' 'after-school youth academies operation,' 'elementary school childcare classrooms,' and 'shared childcare space installation and operation.'

Prior to the meeting, the city held an appointment ceremony for the first-term Community Care Council members and appointed eight members—city council members, private experts (professors and researchers), and officials from related organizations—as council members.
