Finding Viable Development Directions for Gwangneung Forest Biosphere Reserve

[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Park No-hoon] The Gyeonggi Research Institute announced on the 23rd that it will hold a forum on "Sustainable Development Plans for Gwangneung Forest Biosphere Reserve" on the 25th at 10 a.m. in Conference Room 2 of the National Assembly Members' Building.

The forum is planned as an occasion to examine environmental and regional economic issues related to location plans including ▲the relocation of an incinerator facility being promoted in areas adjacent to Gwangneung Forest ▲the development of an advanced furniture industrial complex ▲and development in Gomori, while seeking desirable directions for development.

Presentations will consist of ▲"International Trends of Biosphere Reserves and Implications for Gwangneung Forest" by Professor Oh Choong-hyun of Dongguk University ▲"The Importance and Future Vision of Gwangneung Forest" by Kim Hee-chae, Director of the Korea National Arboretum Center ▲"Environmental Impact Assessment Perspective on Namyangju City's Furniture Industrial Complex Location Plan" by Lee Young-jae, Research Fellow of the Korea Environment Institute ▲and "Surrounding Development Threats and Countermeasures for Gwangneung Forest Biosphere Reserve" by Kim Han-soo and Lee Yu-jin, Research Fellows of the Gyeonggi Research Institute.

An official from the Gyeonggi Research Institute stated, "This forum, sponsored by Gyeonggi Province, the Ministry of Environment, the Korea Forest Service, the Cultural Heritage Administration, and Daejin University, is expected to feature vigorous discussions among experts from various fields including the environmental sector on the sustainable development of Gwangneung Forest Biosphere Reserve."
