Suwon Launches Walking Campaign for Pedestrians' Day
[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Seo Dong-young] Suwon City held a 'practicing walking in urban areas' campaign on the 9th in the Haengung-dong area of Paldal-gu (Eco-Transit Village) to mark 'Pedestrians' Day (November 11th).'
Around 50 participants, including civil servants, residents, and youth, promoted ▲creating safe pedestrian environments ▲living without private vehicles ▲using eco-friendly transportation modes (walking, bicycles, and public transit).
Following the campaign, at Hwaseong Haengung Plaza, the city distributed pamphlets promoting the 'Eco-Transit 2-4-5 Movement (walk for distances within 2km, use bicycles for distances within 4km, use public transit for distances over 5km)' to citizens.
A city official said, "If people walk or use eco-friendly transportation modes, they can maintain their health and improve air quality," adding, "We will make efforts to raise awareness of 'Pedestrians' Day' among more citizens and expand a sustainable eco-transit culture."
'Pedestrians' Day' was established in 2010 to protect the environment and raise awareness about the importance of walking.
