[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Seo Dong-young] Pyeongtaek City held the '10th Minse Award Ceremony' on the 28th at the Grand Hall of Seoul YMCA to inherit and develop the patriotic spirit and national unity spirit of Minse Ahn Jae-hong, a prominent anti-Japanese journalist during the Japanese colonial period.
The Minse Award is named after Minse Ahn Jae-hong, a representative anti-Japanese journalist during the Japanese colonial period. Since 2010, the city has selected recipients who have made contributions to social integration and Korean studies research to honor the new nationalist spirit of Ahn Jae-hong, who was born in Durung-ri, Godeok-myeon, Pyeongtaek City.
Song Kyung-yong, Chairman of the Korea Social Value Fund and recipient of the Social Integration category, has devoted more than 30 years to improving the quality of life for marginalized people in Korean society, beginning with night schools and projects supporting the poor. Jeong Yun-jae, Professor Emeritus at the Academy of Korean Studies and recipient of the Academic Research category, is a first-generation researcher of Ahn Jae-hong. Through over 40 years of research, he has elevated academic interest in Ahn Jae-hong.
At the awards ceremony, Pyeongtaek Mayor Jung Jang-seon said, “I am honored to have these two distinguished individuals as this year's Minse Award recipients. We will remember the proud history and spirit of Pyeongtaek and continue to develop Pyeongtaek City into a center of peace exchange and international culture.”
