[Suwon Ilbo=Seo Dong-young Reporter] Pyeongtaek City conducted "Citizen Briefing Sessions on Military Noise Law" from late last month through the 13th.

The city held the sessions to address citizens' questions and provide accurate information about the "Act on Noise Prevention and Damage Compensation for Military Airfields and Military Firing Ranges" (hereinafter Military Noise Law), which was enacted after 15 years pending in the National Assembly and is set to take effect next year.

The target areas were seven eup, myeon, and dong districts including Seotanmyeon, which directly experience noise damage from military airfields. The briefing session proceeded with explanations from Hwang Seon-hyung, head of the Korea-US Cooperation Division, regarding the major activities of the "Local Government Cooperation Council for the Enactment of the Military Noise Law" (hereinafter Military-Local-Council), future procedures, and details related to the Military Noise Law, followed by a question-and-answer session.

The city plans to deliver opinions from residents in affected areas that emerged during the citizen briefing sessions, along with opinions from local governments belonging to the Military-Local-Council, to the Ministry of National Defense.

Meanwhile, the city produced and distributed 4,000 copies of promotional pamphlets related to the Military Noise Law. The city continues to urge the government to establish concrete subordinate legislation for practical damage compensation measures for affected residents, while promoting "Military-Local-Council Working-Level Meetings" to seek joint responses with related local governments.
