[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Seo Dong-young] The 'Suwon Urban Forest Alliance,' which will lead the creation and management of urban forests for future generations and citizen experience activities related to urban forests, has officially launched.

Suwon City and the Suwon Urban Forest Alliance held the 'Suwon Urban Forest Alliance Launch Ceremony' in the conference room of the Parks and Greenbelt Business Division on the 26th and announced detailed activity plans.

The Suwon Urban Forest Alliance was established to carry out urban forest-related activities with the participation of citizens and experts, and to enhance the health and quality of life of Suwon residents.

The alliance was spearheaded by 10 founding members, with Park Su-kyung, Director of Naturalism Research Institute, and Lee Beom-seok, Director of Gyeonggin Tree Hospital, serving as co-chairs. Following the organization's preparatory meeting held in February, the bylaws were adopted and officers, including a temporary chairman, were elected, leading to the official launch ceremony today.

The launch ceremony was attended by some 50 people, including Suwon City Council members Lee Mi-kyung and Hwang Gyeong-hui, as well as urban forest experts.

The Urban Forest Alliance will henceforth operate programs for urban forest creation participation and lifelong urban forest programs. It also plans to actively participate in demand-driven urban forest policies by forming public-private policy consultative bodies jointly with the city.

The organization plans to ▲propose and preserve urban forest creation and management policies ▲conduct urban forest-related educational projects, seminars, lectures, and publishing initiatives ▲promote traditional culture related to urban forests and undertake commissioned projects with related organizations.

In particular, the plan includes establishing a Suwon City Public-Private Parks and Greenbelt Policy Council in the first half of next year, and promoting a Suwon City Public-Private Urban Forest Day (tentative name) event in the second half of the year.

Yun Jae-geun, head of the city's Greenbelt and Landscape Division, who attended the launch ceremony, said, "We will jointly push forward various policy projects in the parks and greenbelt sector with the Urban Forest Alliance, a volunteer organization, to enhance the quality of greenbelt services for citizens and activate citizen participation."
