18th World Road Association Winter Road Conference Hosting Committee Launches...Suwon Mayor Lee Jae-jun Elected as Co-Chairman

The 'Hosting Committee for the 18th World Road Association (PIARC) Winter Road Conference' has been launched. Suwon Metropolitan Mayor Lee Jae-jun has been elected as co-chairman.

The World Road Association (PIARC) Winter Road Conference Hosting Committee, comprised of Suwon Metropolitan City, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, Gyeonggi Province, Korea Expressway Corporation, the PIARC Korea Committee, road-sector organizations, and related parties, held its launching ceremony on the 17th at Suwon Convention Center. Suwon Mayor Lee Jae-jun and Kim Hyo-jung, Director of the Road Bureau at the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, will serve as co-chairmen.

The committee will operate until October 23rd, when the host city for the PIARC Winter Road Conference will be announced. It plans to conduct intensive negotiations with major voting countries by leveraging international cooperation networks and overseas diplomatic missions, and to request support from PIARC's official networks through committee-level advocacy. The committee will also promote hosting activities targeting participating countries in connection with major international events.

Suwon Mayor Lee Jae-jun stated, "I will make every effort together with related organizations to confirm Suwon's selection as the host city," and added, "Through hosting the PIARC Winter Road Conference, we will move forward with renewed vigor so that Suwon City and the Republic of Korea can shine more brightly on the world stage."

The Winter Road Conference hosted by the World Road Association (PIARC) is the largest international event related to winter road management. It will be conducted as an exhibition and academic conference where not only winter road management but also future road management technologies and policies including strengthening road resilience in response to climate change and transitioning to decarbonization are shared.

The World Road Association (PIARC), established in 1909, is the highest-authority international organization in the road sector with participation from approximately 140 countries. Suwon City was selected as a domestic candidate city for hosting in August.
