Suwon Mayor Lee Jae-jun: "Suwon Hwaseong Culture Festival with 63-Year History Has Potential to Become Global Festival"

Suwon Mayor Lee Jae-jun emphasized that "the Suwon Hwaseong Culture Festival, which has a 63-year history, has sufficient potential to develop into a global festival."

Presiding over the '2026 Suwon Hwaseong 3 Major Festivals Promotion Plan Report Meeting' held at the City Hall conference room on the 15th, Mayor Lee said, "Festivals that continue steadily for over 60 years are rare," and added "We will industrialize the excellent tourism content that Suwon possesses, including the Suwon Hwaseong Culture Festival and the Royal Procession Reenactment of King Jeongjo, and develop it into a global festival."

At the report meeting, inter-departmental collaboration systems were reviewed to effectively operate the three major Suwon Hwaseong festivals: the 63rd Suwon Hwaseong Culture Festival, the Royal Procession of King Jeongjo, and the Suwon Hwaseong Media Art. Attendees included Mayor Lee Jae-jun, First Vice Mayor Kim Hyun-soo, Second Vice Mayor Lee Dong-ki, related department heads, and heads of collaborating organizations.

Mayor Lee requested, "Please conduct thorough preliminary safety inspections repeatedly so that visitors can safely enjoy the three major festivals."

The 63rd Suwon Hwaseong Culture Festival will be held from October 4 to 11 in the Haenggung Square, Hwaseong Haenggung Palace, and throughout the Suwon Hwaseong area including Banghwa Suryujeong, Yongyon, and Yeonmudae. This year's Suwon Hwaseong Culture Festival, themed 'New Light and Red People,' will feature programs including the Suwon Fantasy 'Nocturnal Birds,' the water performance 'Seonyu Dream,' 'Haenggung Night Stories,' the citizens' great architecture 'Hwahong,' and Suwon Gama Race.

The joint reenactment of the Royal Procession of King Jeongjo will take place on October 4. It will depart from the Nososk-jidae, pass through the Suwon Sports Complex and Jangan Gate, and conclude at Haenggung Square. The event will be held as a Suwon Hwaseong Parade with citizen participation and the Eulmyo Royal Tour reenactment procession.

Suwon Hwaseong Media Art is a nighttime content festival that reinterprets Suwon's historical spaces through light and technology. Under the theme of Season 1 'I Have Honored Guests (我有嘉賓)' of 'New Light Communal Joy (同樂): Suwon Hwaseong (華城) Blooms with Light,' it will be held from September 19 to October 6 in the Hwaseo Gate, Jangan Gate, and Jangan Park areas.
