Gwonseon-gu Takes Suspension of Social Security Benefits in 358 Cases
[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Seo Dong-young] Gwonseon-gu, Suwon City announced on the 31st that it has taken action in 358 cases of suspension of existing social security benefits out of 2,509 investigation subjects as a result of regular verification surveys on social security benefits in the second half of the year.
The district conducted a 'Regular Verification Survey on Social Security Benefits for the Second Half of 2019' from October 1 to December 27 in accordance with the Social Security Act and individual project statutes to verify the appropriateness of social security benefits for beneficiaries.
For 2,509 households receiving benefits from 11 welfare projects including basic living security, it reviewed 80 types of public data from 25 recently updated institutions. The purpose is to ensure efficiency in welfare finance as well as prevent fraudulent receipt through appropriate beneficiary qualifications and benefit management.
As a result of the investigation, 358 cases of benefit suspension, 1,008 cases of maintained eligibility, 602 cases of reduced benefits, and 541 cases of increased benefits were adjusted. For those whose benefits suspension was confirmed, advance notices were sent and an objection submission period was operated to allow submission of explanatory documents.
Hong Myeong-sook, head of the Social Welfare Division, stated, "We will minimize fraudulent receipt through appropriate beneficiary qualifications and benefit management. We will also continue efforts to eliminate welfare blind spots."
