[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Seo Dong-young] The Suwon Parks and Greenery Division will distribute balloon vine seeds (green curtain seeds) free of charge to promote the expansion of the green curtain project.

The green curtain project involves installing mesh and rope on the exterior walls of buildings, then planting annual climbing plants such as luffas, morning glories, sword beans, and bottle gourds, allowing the plants to grow along the mesh and rope to cover the exterior wall.

The balloon vine (balloon vine) being distributed free by the Parks and Greenery Division is one of the annual climbing plants used to create green curtains and is a vining annual herb.

The division will distribute 10,000 seeds of balloon vine (packaged in 20 seeds per package, 500 packages) self-harvested by the Korea Ecological Landscape Architecture Association in cooperation with the Suwon Green Trust Foundation. The distribution targets include individuals, groups, schools, and institutions, and will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis.

Visit the City website (http://www.suwon.go.kr) and navigate to 'Suwon News → City News,' search for 'Green Curtain,' download the application form, and submit it by the 31st via email (swgtf@daum.net). Mail, telephone, fax, or in-person applications are not accepted.

Individuals and groups who apply for balloon vine seeds should inquire with Suwon Green Trust (031-242-8827) and then visit Suwon Green Trust (126 Suin-ro, Gwonseon-gu) from the 28th to 31st to collect them.

However, individuals are limited to 2 packages, while schools, institutions, and groups are limited to 4 packages.

Yoon Jae-geun, Head of the Green Space and Landscape Division, said, "We decided to distribute balloon vine seeds free of charge to promote the expansion of the green curtain project," and added, "I hope many citizens will apply and have the opportunity to personally install green curtains."

Green curtains lower indoor temperatures during summer by approximately 5 degrees Celsius compared to general buildings, and the wide leaves of climbing plants absorb dust, thereby reducing fine dust concentrations in the surrounding area. The green curtain project has received attention from other local governments. Last year, over 20 local governments visited the city for benchmarking purposes.
