Comprehensive Fine Dust Reduction Measures for 'Zero Fine Dust' Initiative
[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Seo Dong-young] Osan City announced on the 10th that it has established and begun implementing a 'Comprehensive Fine Dust Reduction Plan for 2020' for the 'Zero Fine Dust' initiative.
To this end, the city has designated 7 key implementation areas—industry, daily life, sensitive populations, external cooperation, policy development, and education and promotion—with the goal of achieving fine dust reduction that residents can tangibly experience.
To accomplish this, the city will hire 6 specialized fine dust patrol personnel to conduct video camera enforcement of vehicle exhaust emissions and implement regular inspections of construction sites and factories. The city will also implement an odd-even vehicle system across all 17 administrative agencies in Osan City.
To reduce emissions, the city will provide support for early retirement of old diesel vehicles (2,000 units/up to 2.1 million won), electric vehicle purchases (100 units/6.5-13 million won), household low-NOx boilers (2,060 units/200,000 won), electric two-wheeled vehicle purchases (35 units/2-3.5 million won), hydrogen vehicle purchases (10 units/32.5 million won), and LPG 1-ton cargo truck purchases (40 units/4 million won).
Additionally, the city will install fine dust mask vending machines and conduct free indoor air quality testing at 171 vulnerable areas including senior centers and children's activity spaces.
A city official stated, "We plan to continue identifying tasks that the city hall should undertake and push forward with all-out efforts for fine dust reduction to achieve the 'Zero Fine Dust' goal."
