Pyeongtaek Launches Public Participation Budget Citizen Proposal Project Contest
[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Seo Dong-young] Pyeongtaek City will accept applications for the 2021 public participation budget citizen proposal project from June 1st to July 17th.
The public participation budget system is designed to expand resident participation in the budget compilation process to ensure transparency and democratization of budgets. Based on last year's figures, 166 citizen proposal projects totaling 5.29 billion won are reflected in Pyeongtaek City's 2021 budget.
This year's contest is divided into city-wide projects of 5 billion won and eup-myeon-dong (township-level) projects of 1.35 billion won, for a total limit of 6.35 billion won. 'City-wide projects' refer to projects applicable to the entire city or two or more eup-myeon-dong areas. 'Eup-myeon-dong projects' are lifestyle-focused initiatives to address local issues in each township area. This year, small-scale citizen wish projects such as agricultural drainage maintenance will be operated separately.
Any resident wishing to submit a proposal can apply by completing a citizen proposal project application form containing ideas in relevant fields and submitting it through the city website (http://www.pyeongtaek.go.kr), by mail (Pyeongtaek City Hall, Budget and Legal Affairs Division), in-person visits to the Budget and Legal Affairs Division and branch offices, or eup-myeon-dong offices.
Citizen proposal projects will be finalized around October after undergoing review by the Pyeongtaek Public Participation Budget Committee and eup-myeon-dong regional councils, and confirmed projects will be included in the final 2021 budget.
