[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Seo Dong-young] Pyeongtaek City announced on the 2nd that it is promoting a 'Child-Friendly City Development Contest Project' to build a city where children can live comfortably.

This contest project is a project designed to specialize the 'UNICEF Child-Friendly City Development Project' that the city has been promoting since last year. The city is exploring ways to actively draw out children's participation and rights together with various community organizations.

Four projects selected through the contest process in the first half of this year—▲the care children's right to play expansion project 'Playing Children Happy Giggles!' (Korea Bang Jeong-hwan Foundation Happy Home Bang Jeong-hwan Community Child Center) ▲the child rights monitoring group 'The Time for Kids to Chime In' (Good Neighbors Gyeonggi Pyeongtaek Branch) ▲the local environment guardian project 'Tomorrow Is Sunny' (Northern Youth Culture House) ▲the media supporters activity 'Wise Kids' Life' (Burak General Social Welfare Center)—are scheduled to be carried out from the second half of the year in compliance with COVID-19 quarantine management guidelines.

Through the contest project, children within the district will directly participate in activities in the areas of play and leisure, participation and citizenship, health and social services, and educational environment, and the city plans to obtain the opinions and experiences of local organizations and children in the field and actively reflect them in child policy.

A city official said, "Through various child-friendly city development activities this year, we will do our best to get closer to children and citizens and make Pyeongtaek a city where children are happy and their rights are respected."

Meanwhile, the city plans to challenge for UNICEF Child-Friendly City certification next year by carrying out tasks such as analyzing the child budget, promoting and educating about child rights, and establishing a four-year strategic plan this year.
