[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Seo Dong-young] Suwon Mayor Yeom Tae-young instructed officials to "make full preparations before the administrative boundary adjustment takes effect so that residents whose administrative jurisdictions are changing due to the administrative boundary adjustment between Suwon and Hwaseong do not experience inconvenience."

Mayor Yeom stated at the "July Executive Leadership Meeting" held in non-face-to-face format on the 26th, "When the administrative boundary adjustment ordinance takes effect on July 24th, approximately 550 residents will be incorporated into Suwon." He added, "To prevent residents from experiencing confusion, actively promote the fact of the administrative boundary adjustment."

The "Regulation on Changes in Jurisdiction between Suwon and Hwaseong in Gyeonggi Province" submitted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety was deliberated at the State Council meeting on June 16th and promulgated on the 23rd. The "irrational administrative boundary adjustment" between the Mangpo-dong area in Suwon and the Banjeong-dong area in Hwaseong is expected to take place soon. When the boundary adjustment ordinance takes effect on July 24th, the administrative boundary adjustment will be completed.

Suwon and Hwaseong plan to exchange equal areas (198,825 square meters) of the Mangpo-dong area in Suwon and the Banjeong-dong area in Hwaseong. The areas subject to boundary adjustment have irregular boundaries. Part of Hwaseong's Banjeong-dong extends into the Shin-dong district in an "n" shape, surrounded on three sides by Suwon.

Suwon successfully completed irrational administrative boundary adjustments with Uiwang City in 2013 and Yongin City in 2019. The boundary adjustment with Hwaseong is the second case where administrative jurisdictions in residential city areas have been adjusted, following the Suwon-Yongin administrative boundary adjustment.

The "July Executive Leadership Meeting" presided over by Mayor Yeom Tae-young was conducted with a communication workshop by Kim Soo-hyun, Sejong University professor (former Presidential Chief of Staff for Policy), and policy discussions.

Professor Kim Soo-hyun, who delivered a lecture on the theme "COVID-19 Era: Meaning and Role of Local Governments," stated, "COVID-19 response begins on the 'quarantine front line' and extends to the 'economic front,' and will now move to the 'social front' that strengthens social safety nets."

The city conducted the expanded executive meeting in non-face-to-face videoconference format. Only minimal personnel, including Mayor Yeom Tae-young, First Vice Mayor Cho Cheong-sik, Second Vice Mayor Cho Moo-young, department and division heads from City Hall participated in the meeting at the City Hall conference room, while heads of the four districts, division chiefs, project directors, and dong heads participated via video from their respective offices.
