Uiwang City Completes Small-Scale Regeneration Project for Naeson Art Village

[Suwon Ilbo=Correspondent Seo Dong-young] Uiwang City announced on the 8th that it has completed a small-scale regeneration project aimed at revitalizing the atmosphere of the depressed village following the redevelopment cancellation of 'Naeson Art Village' near Naeson Sports Park (Naeson District).

The Naeson Art Village regeneration project was initiated after Uiwang City urban regeneration university graduates directly proposed needed projects for the area, and the project was selected for the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's 'Small-Scale Regeneration Project' in 2018.

As artist studios began moving into the area and the number of resident artists increased, Naeson Art Village was named by the residents themselves. The project installed a marker stone at the village entrance and operates free workshop programs in collaboration with artist studios in the area.

Additionally, the city remodeled an unused restroom in Naeson Sports Park into a community space accessible to all residents, which is being utilized in various ways including as a venue for resident club meetings and resident participation budget study groups.

To address potential regional crime issues caused by resident relocations from nearby redevelopment projects, lighting was installed using alley walls.

The city announced that residents are actively participating in village activities, with CCTV installation locations determined through resident surveys before installation.

Gu Hong-seo, head of the city's urban regeneration division, said, "As this is the first case related to Uiwang City's urban regeneration new deal projects, we will actively discover and support projects in the field so that various types of urban regeneration project cases can emerge in the future."
