Jangan-gu Collects 1,000 Ice Packs for 'Ice Pack Sharing Project'
[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Seo Dong-young] Suwon's Jangan-gu announced on the 19th that it has collected 1,000 ice packs to date for the ice pack sharing project being implemented through September.
Currently, due to COVID-19 and other factors, people are increasingly reluctant to go out, and there is a growing trend of using food delivery services instead of dining out or purchasing food directly.
Demand for ice packs is also increasing, but since ice packs contain gel made of plastic materials, they are difficult to recycle, and if simply discarded, they inevitably pollute the environment.
The district plans to collect clean, unused ice packs from the district and neighborhood administrative welfare centers, have them cleaned through social enterprises, and then supply them to large distribution centers within the district or distribute them to residents in need. Through this, the district expects to resolve garbage disposal problems to some extent.
Lee Beom-seon, head of Jangan-gu Office, said, "Ice packs, of which 200 million units are distributed annually, are mostly discarded in garbage bags when they become useless. Through recycling, we can reduce environmental pollution caused by ice pack waste and utilize them as valuable resources," and added, "We look forward to active participation from residents."
