The optimal seeding period for kimchi vegetables such as Chinese cabbage and turnips for kimchi preparation is from mid-to-late August after the final phase of summer heat passes according to the traditional calendar. If the seeding period is delayed during fall cultivation, timely harvesting becomes difficult.

In particular, due to this year's prolonged rainy season and frequent rainfall, it is difficult for farmers to meet the seeding period on time. Therefore, farms should prepare seeds and fertilizers in advance, and prepare fields through plowing at an appropriate time when soil moisture is adequate after rainfall.

For Chinese cabbage, if commercial growing media is purchased, it is safe to use it as is without mixing self-made growing media. If seeding is done too early, viruses and root rot disease can occur in large numbers, so seeding should be done at the appropriate time. When selecting a variety before seeding, the choice should be made considering climate and soil conditions.

For turnips, it is important to plow the field deeply, break up the soil into fine pieces, and allow roots to extend downward properly. For good cultivation and management, use a seeding machine to sow point by point, then sow 3-5 seeds per location to ensure no empty spaces (missing plants) in the field and thin as needed. The optimal temperature for growth should be maintained at 15-20℃.
