Ganghwa County Advances Underground Power Line Project on Ganghwa-daero

[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Seo Dong-young] Ganghwa County announced on the 5th that the 'Ganghwa-daero Overhead Distribution Line Underground Utility Project' in Ganghwa-eup is progressing smoothly.

The project aims to underground electric poles and telecommunication poles that are tangled like a spider web along Jung-ang-ro in Ganghwa-eup, creating a clean street free of overhead wires.

The project section spans 930 meters (both directions) from Suhyeop Intersection to Almigol Intersection, with a total budget of 4.624 billion won. Construction is scheduled to begin in October with a target completion date of March next year.

Additionally, during the project period, the county plans to collaborate with Incheon City Water Works, Korea Electric Power Corporation, and telecommunications companies to minimize inconveniences caused by road and sidewalk excavation.

A county official stated, "Traffic disruption and congestion are expected due to road excavation," and urged, "We ask for your understanding despite some inconveniences."

Ganghwa County Governor Yu Cheon-ho said, "This will create a clean and pleasant pedestrian-friendly street, improve residents' quality of life, and contribute to the urban regeneration project in Ganghwa-eup and the revitalization of the local economy. We will continue to pursue underground utility projects to continuously improve the urban landscape," he added.

Meanwhile, the overhead wire underground project from Suhyeop Intersection to Jung-ang Market was completed in January this year. The overhead wire underground project from Jung-ang Market to Shinmun Intersection (near Ganghwa Girls' High School) is underway with a target completion date within next year.
