[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Seo Dong-young] Vice Chairman Kim Ki-jeong of Suwon City Council called for a comprehensive review of the private sale of the Mangpo Station district complex development project site through a five-minute free speech at the second plenary session of the 355th extraordinary meeting on the 23rd.

Vice Chairman Kim Ki-jeong stated, "Suwon City and Suwon Urban Corporation say there is no problem at all with the private sale of the Mangpo Station district complex development project site since they followed legal procedures." He added, "However, for policies and projects to be authoritative, they must go beyond legal procedures to gather diverse civic opinions and reach consensus through social discussion. This is also connected to Suwon City's future vision as a citizen-participation city."

Regarding Suwon Urban Corporation's plan to develop the site through a competitive private development method to solve parking shortages in the Yeongdeungpo area and create cultural spaces and attract key businesses, he pointed out, "The public parking lot in the basement of the complex center building to address parking shortages in the Yeongdeungpo area is exclusively for complex center occupants and visitors, not for residents of Yeongdeungpo and Mangpo-dong. The connection passage to Mangpo Station is also a facility for the complex center."

Vice Chairman Kim stated, "Small business owners and self-employed workers are already facing many difficulties due to COVID-19, and once the complex center is built, the surrounding commercial districts will inevitably decline." He urged, "Suwon City should sufficiently gather opinions from the Suwon City Council, civic groups, and residents before proceeding with the Mangpo Station district complex development project."
